In the advent of Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) related to COVID-19 outbreak, USAID through its Medicines, Technologies, and Pharmaceutical Services (MTaPS) program is providing technical assistance to the Ministry of Health in Kenya to support the COVID-19 response in the areas such as policy, planning and coordination; Supply Chain and Logistics Management; Pharmacovigilance and Monitoring Adverse Events; Human Resources for Health, Training and Supervision and lastly Communication and Advocacy. MTaPS has been tasked to provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health at national level as well as in focus counties on COVID-19 vaccines deployment. As part of the implementation, MTaPS supported the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) to implement targeted spontaneous reporting of adverse events following Immunization (AEFI) with COVID-19 vaccines.

 

Targeted Spontaneous reporting (TSR) is a stimulated form of spontaneous reporting of health products related safety events. TSR is intended to ensure that patients are monitored, and that adverse events (AEs) are reported as a normal component of routine patient monitoring and to achieve the requisite standard of care.  The TSR activity was jointly implemented in 14 facilities across 14 counties in Kenya by The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) together with the National Vaccines and Immunization Program (NVIP) and with support from the Medicines, Technologies, and Pharmaceutical Services (MTaPS) Program.

 

Tasks for the Data Analysts

  • Prepare a data analysis plan for the data collected from the Targeted Spontaneous Reporting (TSR) Study.
  • Collate and verify the data collected.
  • Undertake data entry and analysis using statistical techniques
  • Prepare a technical  report to summarize and interpret statistical information from the analyzed data from the Targeted spontaneous Reporting (TSR) Study
  • Undertake any other activity that may be assigned by MTaPS towards completion of this assignment.

Deliverables

  • Technical Report (in word) summarizing and interpreting the data outputs for decision making
  • Data entry output summaries (in excel format)

 

 

The ideal candidates should have a Bachelor’s degrees IT or any other related any related field. S/he should have atleast 2 years relevant working experience.

 

In addition, s/he should have Data analysis and research skills, skills in project management, Monitoring and evaluation and Report writing.

 

The candidates should have ability to work independently and in a team. Experience with spreadsheets and database applications strongly preferred.

 

S/he should have strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; excellent interpersonal skills are required.
