Organizational Setting
FAO Afghanistan is investing, across all 34 provinces, in resilience reinforcing actions that focus on protecting agriculture livelihoods and local ecosystems, boosting local production of nutritious foods and cash-incomes, and safeguarding critical agriculture sectoral development gains achieved over the past couple of decades through revitalizing rural markets and economy. In 2022-2023, FAO will, under the life-saving assistance Outcome (1) of the UN Transitional Engagement Framework (TEF), focus on the following four priority actions: (i) Safeguarding Wheat Seed Security, (ii) Enhancing Local Production of Nutritious Food, (iii) Livestock Protection and Dairy Sector Support, and (iv) Restoring Irrigation Structures to Boost Cash Incomes. Additionally, FAO will contribute towards resilience building activities under Outcome 2 of the TEF.
Reporting Lines
The IT Assistant will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative, the direct supervision of the IT Specialist and in close consultation and collaboration with the Digitalisation and Informatics Division (CSI) in the Regional Office for Asia and Pacific (RAP) and HQ.
These are National Project Personnel positions – SB3.
Technical Focus
Provision of IT support for the FAO Afghanistan operation in Kabul and all field Offices.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Provide support to the organization of office meetings, conferences, workshops and other office events;
• Receive and log requests from users relating to IT services in the Service Desk System;
• Provide orientation to New Users on the IT rules and regulations, in particular related to equipment, printers, scanners, and IT security matters;
• Provide instructions to users on existing technology and potential use (One drive for Business, Team-works, MSOffice, Intranet, Skype for Business, etc.);
• Provide first level support[1] to users and coordinate responses to/from 2nd level teams to resolve issues that cannot be resolved as first level support;
• Assist with maintaining the IT equipment (hardware, software) up-to-date and ensure the IT inventory is updated at all times in the Service Desk system and GRMS fixed assets;
• Provide hands-on assistance to users in organizing presentations and setting up audio-visual equipment;
• Help to update and manage the inventory of office assets (IT related assets only);
• Assist in the planning and procurement of IT-equipment and software, based on established equipment life cycle processes;
• Ensure security of the network by following security policies and report problems when they are detected;
• Prepare regular IT related reports for Senior Management;
• Provide guidance to all FAO Afghanistan personnel on IT related guidelines, policies, and standards;
• Perform any other duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• University (Bachelor) degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering or a related field.
• At least three (3) years of relevant work experience in IT-related support work for large scale office operations.
• Working knowledge (level C) of English and local languages (Pashto and/or Dari).
• National of Afghanistan.

Technical/Functional Skills
• Extent and relevance of experience in online communication and collaboration tools such as Zoom and Teams;
• Extent and relevance of experience in user support (desktop hardware configuration, diagnosis and repair, and with software configuration, Microsoft Windows Operating Systems and Office software)
• Hands-on experience in Microsoft O365, systems installation and configuration;
• Strong understanding of desktop and laptop hardware set-up and configuration;
• Extent and relevance of experience in supporting information technologies and communications network within large-scale LAN and WAN environments, including extensive familiarity with basic telecommunication technologies such as telephony, IP networking and Wide Area Networks;
• Previous experience with the United Nations and/or I/NGOS, in a similar role, is an advantage;
• Able to work under pressure and work with multidisciplinary and different cultural background teams.
