About us

Founded in 1989, RFUK’s mission is to support Indigenous Peoples and other communities of the world’s rainforests in their efforts to protect their environment and fulfil their rights to land, life and livelihood. RFUK is committed to both human rights and environmental protection when it comes to tackling deforestation. Locally, we support forest communities to gain land rights, challenge harmful industries, manage and benefit from their forests, and protect their environment. Globally, we campaign to influence national and international laws and processes that protect rainforests and their inhabitants.

About the role

The Livelihoods Coordinator role sits within RFUK’s Programmes Team and will play a central role in shaping and delivering community centred sustainable livelihood initiatives across our forest landscapes. Working closely with local partners, the postholder will lead the strategic design and technical implementation of sustainable livelihood interventions that are market linked, culturally appropriate and ecologically sustainable.

Key aspects of the role will be to provide technical oversight of field activities, support coordination with regional stakeholders and authorities, and drive the institutional strengthening of partner NGOs through targeted capacity building. The role will involve substantial field travel, including extended periods in remote forest areas (up to 50%).

Building on RFUK’s existing foundations, the postholder will support the scaling of the Farmer Field School model, guide producers’ associations (MUSOs) towards registered cooperatives, and reinforce the link between improved livelihoods and community forest protection.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will bring at least 3 years’ experience of project management support in a charity or in an international development context, as well as 3 years’ of experience in supporting community land use planning and livelihoods initiatives in rural contexts. We are seeking a dynamic and committed professional, who is ready to get stuck in and thrive across diverse environments, from working with forest communities to engaging with the private sector, government and international donors.

The candidate will be contributing positively to our dynamic organisational ethos and values and cross-team working where all ideas are valued, and innovation is encouraged. They will be able to fit well into a fast-paced, demanding and high impact environment with an international focus.

We provide a friendly, humble and welcoming team environment. This includes weekly staff team and catch-up meetings with line managers, flexible working arrangements, and opportunities for learning and professional development.
