Recap 2021 Boxing Event of the year: Bukavu is back on national and international Scene.
The year 2021 was the rebirth of boxing in south kivu bukavu after years of inactivity. This year we saw new prospect coming from different boxing clubs who showed their talents and other moved from amateur to semi-professional boxing. Boxing is taking part back it places which was one of the most loved sport after football.
This year we had the following boxing events,
1.The return of the king YANNICK RURHAMBYA The champion of Congo(Super-Welter)

After days of inactivity our champion Yannick(73kg) came back to the ring and made the boxing fans happy by scoring a devasted K.O at the 3rd round beating Kalemie champion (Terminator) in one of the best showdowns. His record is still untouched with 6 pro fight (5 wins with K.O and 1 draw) and 10 amateurs (8 wins and 2 draws). This fight happed on February 14th ,2021 at Stadium Nzee Laurent Desire Kabila, Commune de Kadutu.
He never tested a defeat, the best in the east of congo where he beats boxers from all of East of Congo and south east. He is feared with his magical left hand which always deliver devasted knockout, no one has been able to stop him in the region. His ambition is to fight outside the DR. Congo and one day reach the like of Ilunga Makabu Junior who will fight Canelo in 2022 to defend his WBC cruiserweight. remember Yannick is a brother of another Champion who is currently boxing in south africa is KIZITO Ruhambya. 2. SAMUEL MULOKO wining fight in Tanzania

SAMUEL is among the best boxer boxing in Super wester category and one of the dangerous boxers to face. This year he manages to win several fights in Dar es salaam and Kampala with a KO for all the fight his delivered abroad.

3.Organisation of provincial boxing league
On 29th November 2021 to 23 December 2021, Boxing federation of Congo Bukavu organized the annual boxing tournament which have the participation of all boxing clubs affiliated to the body which are;

- Boxing Club Brilliant

The final will be this Friday 23rd December 2021. Where will have great fights like the raising start CEDRIC GAKUBA (Boxing Club TBT) the KO artiste who will face SERGE KATUMBI (Boxing Club Ougan) in an epic fight of giant to have the king of the weight class of Middle weight to represent the province to national boxing completion in January. As well other big fight such as GAEL CITARTO of Boxing Radi who will face HABAMUNGU (Boxing Club Ouragan) in light weight to find the king, with a slide edge of the Radi boxer since his the most complete boxer with super techniques and great footwork.
- Raising of women in boxing
This year we noticed a raising number women who are enrolled in different boxing club either to improve their health status, to fight discrimination against women, fight violence/rape and others choosed as career. We can note in 4 boxing clubs (Boxing Club TBT, RADI, KISIKI, Corrosif) a presence of women whom have ring experiences and others are beginners who are eager to follow foot step of Clerence Shield (WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, Ring Champions of the world), Katy (WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, Ring Champions of the world), AMANDA SERRANO, SENIESA etc. In BOXING TBT Bukavu we have LYDIA who is the best currently in the Kivu region.
Lack of promotion and support discourage women who seems in boxing the future. One notable organization KIVUHUB is working close with different clubs to provide promotion support and match making.
NOTE: THE MAIN CHALLENGE OF BOXING IN THE DR CONGO A SPECIALLY BUKAVU IS LACK OF OPPORTUNITIES, LACK OF PROMOTION AND SPONSORSHIP. THIS ARTICLE HIGHLIGHT MAJOR ARCHIEVEMNET OF BOXING IN BUKAVU AND ISSUE THE BOXERS WHO CHOOSED THIS DISCIPLINE AS WAY OF FIGHTING POVERTY AND HOW NEED SUPPORT.
